Summary

  • Program Overview: Launched in February 2013 under the National Health Mission, RBSK is a comprehensive child health program providing free screening, early intervention, and treatment for children aged 0–18 years.
  • The 4 ā€˜D’s Framework: It aims to screen approximately 27 crore children for 32 specific conditions categorized into Defects at birth, Deficiencies, Childhood Diseases, and Developmental delays & disabilities (plus 3 optional conditions like sickle cell anaemia).
  • Targeted Screening: Mobile Health Teams (MHTs) conduct systematic screenings twice a year at Anganwadi Centres for children aged 0–6 years, and once a year at schools for children aged 6–18 years, alongside newborn screenings by health workers.
  • District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC): Children identified with conditions are referred to a multidisciplinary DEIC located at district hospitals for diagnostic confirmation, therapy, assistive devices, and further referral for free surgeries if needed.
  • RBSK 2.0 (2026 Updates): The program is evolving to include expanded focus on mental health, behavioral issues, and non-communicable disease risk factors, fully integrated with digital health tracking via ABDM/ABHA.
